After earning her J.D. from Loyola Law School with a concentration in Civil Litigation, Leigh joined Robie & Matthai in 2013; she handles legal malpractice matters and insurance bad faith defense cases. Leigh’s analytical skills and litigation judgment help her wade through voluminous documents and electronic records to identify the significant information and synthesize the data for use throughout the litigation. As the daughter of two trial lawyers, Leigh gained an early understanding of the practice and an instinct for using the facts to the best advantage of the firm’s clients.

During law school, Leigh clerked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. As a certified law student, she handled over 50 felony preliminary hearings, allowing her to hone her skills questioning witnesses and preparing cases for hearing. She handled two misdemeanor trials, giving her experience with jury selection, opening statements, witness examination, and closing statements. The most important lesson: learning to think on her feet.

While at Loyola, Leigh completed Loyola’s Civil Litigation Skills Practicum, an intensive year-long program that focuses on the stages of a civil litigation matter, including case assessment, initiating and responding to a lawsuit, discovery plans, motions to compel, and motions for summary adjudication/judgment. She also earned a First Honors Award in Trial Advocacy.

Favorite Cases

In a recent arbitration Leigh second-chaired with Edith, a producer sued his former lawyers for malpractice after a trial court entered judgment against the producer for over fifteen million dollars in litigation against his production company. The underlying case file was massive; the parties’ convoluted dealings had spanned several decades. Leigh’s review of 73 bankers boxes and over 500,000 digital documents helped establish that the underlying result was exactly what the producer deserved; Leigh created comprehensive document chronologies showing a pattern and practice of fraud by the producer. The arbitrators held that the plaintiff could not have obtained a better result at the underlying trial.
